6 of Northern Michigan's coziest joints

Now that patio season has come to a close; we must scramble to find respite from the incoming chill.

Thankfully, this area had plenty of places to seek out warmth. Whether you’re looking for fine cuisine or refining your whiskey palate, these six Northern Michigan gems will warm your cockles this winter.

Soft lighting and rustic charm are the highlights of Bennethum’s Northern Inn’s decor. The dim light could make anyone feel cozy in this local favorite.

The Sugar Bowl’s atmosphere is sophisticated and sleek. If high style is your cup of tea, this is the perfect place to cozy up to the fireplace.

Tap Room 32 offers an inviting sit-down setting where internationally inspired cuisine is served in an elegant but relaxed environment.

The Bearded Dogg Lounge is under new ownership/management. John Richardson has transformed the venue to be the same in spirit, but very different from the Dogg of the past.

All the menu items are fresh and made to order with short prep time.

The cocktail menu has been streamlined for faster service. Take the time to grab a seat and enjoy the space.

Wren in Suttons Bay is a delight, located in the old Firehouse building downtown.

Chef Adam McMarlin definitely knows how best to use his local resources. The restaurant offers a casual and genuinely unique, upscale dining experience. Wren features surprisingly simple, yet passionately and expertly curated cuisine. Pear, farro, ash pyramid, oyster mushroom, wild watercress salad is life altering.

Last, but not least, Cafe Santé in Boyne City is one our favorites.

The bar is magnificent — like nothing you will see anywhere else. This casual bistro serves simple European-style classics with flair.
