Get a jump on Halloween screams at these attractions

“This is Halloween ... this is Halloween” my little heart pre-emptively sings as it feels the crisp air September air.

October is nearly upon us. Harvest season is ending, and all the creepy crawlies start to come out to celebrate the darker half of the year.

Here is a list of scares to prepare you for Samhain:

Witchin’ Night Out

This event hits downtown Gaylord from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8. Grab your friends for a howling good time as participating businesses become the perfect place for ghosts and goblins to haunt. The local shops will have mysterious specials and refreshments galore.

Witches Night Out

Head to Downtown Lewiston for Witches Night Out at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. This ladies night kicks off off the Halloween season.

Fly from business to business, collecting bone-rattling deals and sweet treats. Make sure to watch the Dance of the Witches. It’s going to be a wicked fun time. If you want to join in on the dance, follow the Lewiston Witch Dancers page at https://www.facebook.com/Lewiston-Witch-Dancers-113965219977421/

Forest of Fear

This unique haunted Halloween trail walk located in Grayling turns 14 this year. The trail has more than 15 walkthrough scenes and 40-plus volunteers. The proceeds are donated to local charities and organizations.

The trail is open Friday and Saturday in October from dark until 11 p.m. 1316 Stephan Bridge Road, Grayling.

The Ghost Farm of Kingsley

The farm, 5010 Pierce Road, Kingsley, opens its doors to celebrate its 10th year of fear Friday, Sept. 27, from dusk, approximately 7:15 p.m., to 11 p.m.

This year’s theme of “Scary Tales” will show you a side of fairy tales you never imagined. The haunted attraction will continue to scare guests every Friday and Saturday through Oct. 26.

Founded in 2010, the Ghost Farm of Kingsley is Traverse City’s premier theatrical haunted house attraction. Life-like horror actors guide guests through an interactive, scream-inducing experience. From the Cursed Barn to the Haunted Trail, and Gravely Greenhouse filled with live monsters, and special effects, the attraction is sure to make anyone’s blood curdle.
